WPEC 3.8.6 Is Out

That is the first news. As for the second, we would like to spread the news that WP E-commerce 3.8.6 also had been released. With this version, it is now completely compatible with WPML. By using WP e-Commerce and WPML together, you can easily translate product descriptions and categories into other languages without having to create multiple products for each language. The URL structure is also flexible for you to modify it to suit with multiple languages. Editing variations is now much faster since they cut 66% of unnecessary database queries. What a double happy news.

WP e-Commerce 3.8.5 Is Released

Here we are happily spread the words that the WordPress e-Commerce 3.8.5 is released.

For you who have been wondering out there, several issues that had been fixed are those relate to the Paypal payment gateway, and some compatibility issues with WordPress 3.2.

Today, WordPress 3.2 has been released for a couple of days, so it’s highly recommended that you set up a development site and test your existing store with WordPress 3.2 and WP e-Commerce 3.8.5. If you find any compatibility issue with WordPress 3.2, don’t hesitate to submit a bug report on Google Code since any critic will surely brings us a better future. :D

As always, before upgrading, make sure that you have a backup of your files and database.

What will be on WP e-Commerce Plugin 3.9

These are a few five star features that Getshopped (our favourite WordPress online store plugin provider) are currently working for WordPress e-Commerce Plugin 3.9.

Payment Gateway API

There will be a PHP payment gateway that works independently from WordPress. Developers will be able to use that library in any PHP projects. The WP e-Commerce Plugin will be the first of many to integrate the new PHP Payment Gateway library with WordPress. As a result, all WPEC users will benefit because it will mean that Payment Gateways will be tested more thoroughly, and updated more frequently.

As with compatibility issue, any current customized Payment Gateways will still work fine in 3.9. But the old merchant API will be deprecated in 4.0, so if you’ve developed a Payment Gateway for WPEC before, stay tuned for documentation on the new API.

Variations Handling

Occasionally, there are shops that require a huge combination of variations whose common problem is these huge shops run into is server slow-down and an unresponsive user interface. To answer this issue, Getshopped said they are working on some potential approaches to further optimize variation handlings.

Checkout Process

Currently the first step requires customers to select country and region before they can fill out any other information, in certain scenarios this means another reload of the checkout page is required (i.e. room for UX to improve). Also, some payment gateways don’t require sending additional billing and shipping details, but the checkout form displays those fields anyway.

In the future, site admin will have an option to select a default shipping location. Customers can modify their location outside of the checkout page (by clicking a button on the cart widget, for example). If multiple payment methods are available, the first checkout step would require customers to select a method first. Then WPEC will decide whether customers need to fill out further details.

Theming and Customization

There will be a new template system to answer compatibility issue with other theme frameworks, and theme developers can use WordPress built-in template hierarchy for custom post types and custom taxonomies with no problem. A default theme will be developed as well, and will serve as a framework, so that it can be easily customized by child themes. Of course, backward compatibility with the old shortcode template system will still be maintained in a separate add-on.

Since this will be a big challenging change, it is doubtful that this change will be included in 3.9 timeframe. If it’s not, this change will be included in 3.10 or 4.0 (whichever comes first).

Coupons

The next big stage for coupons is turning them into their own custom post type – this is under development, so let’s hope it will be completed for the 3.10 release.

User Interface

Be prepared for the new Checkout Settings page, the Digital Downloads Screen Option, and possibly the Presentations Settings page user interface.

Documentation

Along with the new APIs and features, they will provide more thorough documentation and tutorials so that both users and developers can get the best out of WPEC. In the meantime, you can checkout Getshopped new WordPress e-Commerce training videos.

WP E-commerce 3.8.4 and On-progress Coupons for 3.9

Here comes the good news for WordPress E-commerce Plugin 3.8. A few days ago, Getshopped.org announced that they are (technically) done with updates and bug fixes for 3.8.

This 3.8.4 update includes the biggest issue of 3.8: theme integration, and will probably rolled out with WordPress E-commerce Plugin 3.9.

So, below is the list of several things that had been fixed in this 3.8.4 update.

* Add: User can duplicate a product in admin panel
* Add: WooThemes integration support
* Change: Total in Cart widget now excludes shipping and tax
* Fix: Invalid country code in paypal-standard.merchant.php
* Fix: Tax is not passed properly to Paypal Pro
* Fix: Currency code preference not correctly selected in Paypal gateways
* Fix: Paypal gateways doesn’t check whether the currency being sent to Paypal is accepted or not, resulting in wrong currency
* Fix: Checkout form selecting the wrong field when a previous field with the same uniquename was deleted
* Fix: Various issues with Google Checkout
* Fix: State data outside of US is not passed to payment gateways
* Fix: State is not displaying correctly in the users purchase history
* Fix: Wrong generated product permalink when a product is assigned multiple carts, and a product category is being viewed
* Fix: Submitting a checkout form with mandatory billing state only refreshes the form although everything is filled out correctly
* Fix: Billing Country is trimmed, and Billing State is not properly decoded
* Fix: Billing and shipping state no longer stored incorrectly
* Fix: Checkout form validation skips mandatory custom checkout fields on default form set
* Fix: Paystation does not properly update purchase logs
* Fix: When there’s no product, and Sort Product By is set to ‘dragndrop’, viewing the admin product list would produce a Division by zero warning
* Fix: Store sub-pages return 404 error
* Fix: Only Purchase History in Your Account show the login option
* Fix: Weight on Variations contain too many decimals
* Fix: Add to Cart in grid view bypasses Variations selection
* Fix: get_queried_object() requires WP 3.1
* Fix: Invalid version number in display-update.page.php
* Fix: Correct HTML, to stop Free Shipping Discount getting blanked
* Fix: Support taxonomy archives for product_tag taxonomy

Wow… just a while ago we heard of WordPress e-Commerce Plugin 3.8, WPEC 3.8.1, and WPEC 3.8.2, now we are ready to welcome WordPress e-Commerce 3.8.3.

  • New: Individual item details are sent to Paypal Express Checkout Change: Automatically reload database update page when PHP maximum execution time is detected
  • Change: Add progress bar and estimated time remaining for database update tasks
  • Change: Themes can now use taxonomy-wpsc_product_category-{$term}.php and taxonomy-wpsc_product_category.php templates, which take precedence over page.php when viewing a product category

  • Fix: Purchase logs’ statuses are not properly updated when upgrading from 3.7.x

  • Fix: Country name is truncated when sending to payment gateway
  • Fix: Billing state code is not properly converted before sending to payment gateway
  • Fix: Wrong USA country code is sent to Paypal Standard Payment
